Guidance - what you need to know

1. It is important that Costain maximises every opportunity to be a learning organisation. A model to enable this has been in development for some time, ready for roll-out in 2021. To support this, an E-learning Package that includes a general introduction, how incidents can be viewed using the model and application to previous case studies will be ready by the end of Qtr. 1. Initial focus will be placed on those who will most benefit from this mindful approach to learning, namely: contract leaders, agents, managers, designers, engineers, FLMs, and those engaged in consultancy roles. Starting in Qrt.2, progress will be monitored on the Group SHE Dashboard using a count of target population throughout 2021.

2. Alongside implementation of learning organisation principles across the organisation, a deep dive will take place to identify how learning is currently understood and implemented. This deep dive will consist of a ‘desktop’ survey with key stakeholders (as identified by the SHE WLT and selected contributors) against a consistent ‘question set’, developed in Qtr. 1. The deep dive will be completed by the end of Qtr. 3 where learning ‘gaps’ will be identified and discussed with improvement plans and an associated strategy produced in Qtr. 4 ready for 2022.
