Guidance - what you need to know

9. In 2019 we launched our Climate Change Action Plan which set out the first steps in our climate change and carbon management training programme, the aim of which is to make carbon management and net zero relatable and accessible to all. The training programme breaks down our Action Plan and is ensuring everyone fully understands what we are doing to meet net zero, why we are focusing on the areas we are and how every individual has a role to play in meeting this global challenge. Our Leading Carbon in Costain course provides a strategic insight into how climate change and net zero are shaping our industry: from the global explosion of green and sustainable finance to demystifying our industry’s carbon hotspots, In 2021, 150 senior leaders from across the business who have not previously attended the two-part course will be selected to do so.

10. In 2020, over 1000 individuals completed the first in the series in our carbon management e-learning module and over 100 senior leaders completed a bespoke Leading Carbon in Costain (LCIC) course. Building on our successful roll out in 2020, this year we have added a second carbon management e-learning module to our training programme. This module will complement the first e-learning module which introduced the benefits and value of carbon management and outlined the principals of PAS2080, the world’s first specification for Managing Carbon in Infrastructure.

All mandatory training will be automatically assigned and will appear in individuals’ My Learning Page. For anyone looking to undertake additional training such as LCIC (when this has not already been assigned to you), booking can be made through the MyLearning portal. Please be sure to book on to both a Part 1 and Part 2 session to fully compete the LCIC course. Training will be monitored using the Group SHE Dashboard.

11. The SHE SLT will develop a refresher course for previous attendees of the Leading SHE in Costain course. Those who undertook the original one-day course 3 years ago will be targeted first using MyLearning records. Where possible, this refresher session will take place face-to-face in a socially distanced manner, but a virtual option will also be available. The original LSiC sessions will also be delivered during 2021 for those senior leaders who are new to Costain.
